Course Descriptions

Our engineering design program offers an intensive hands-on education taught by experienced professors from both engineering and the humanities and social sciences. The program is designed to teach students the depth and breadth of the design process along with the necessary technical tools and professional skills to improve the world we live in. Engineering Design is an undergraduate program.

ENGD 260 - Engineering Design Studio VI: Product Design

  • Credit Hours: 4R-12L-6C
  • Term Available: S
  • Graduate Studies Eligible: No
  • Prerequisites: ENGD 250
  • Corequisites: None

Continues the design process by examining the interactions between design and manufacturing from the designer's point of view. Common manufacturing processes will be introduced and design guidelines will be developed for each process. Emphasizes a systems engineering approach for new product development. Introduces properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, and composites. Surveys the materials available to engineers and discusses applications and material selection. Provides practice in informative, persuasive, and impromptu public speaking. Students may not receive credit toward graduation for both ENGD 250 and IA 230.
